12.67 lakh applications registered for UGC NET 2021: NTA

The National Testing Agency (NTA) on Saturday said that around 12.67 lakh applications have been registered for the UGC NET 2021 starting from November 20. In this edition of UGC NET, two pending editions of the exam- December 2020 and June 2021- are being conducted simultaneously.

As per the data shared by NTA, the exam will be conducted at 469 centers across 213 cities.

“In order to ensure fair and smooth conduct of the examination on the first day, 1,783 jammers and 8142 CCTV cameras were deployed at all the centres, enabling the National and Regional Coordinators appointed by the NTA to virtually supervise the entire administration of the examination. ” Said.

On the first day, a total of 52,335 candidates appeared in 36 different subjects out of which 13,975 appeared in the first shift for 19 subjects and 38,360 in the second shift for the remaining 17. About 48% of the candidates who appeared were women. Candidates of the third gender too, the NTA has said.

UGC NET is conducted for the merit of Assistant Professor recruitment and award of Junior Research Fellowship. The exam is conducted twice a year in December and June. The previous UGC NET was conducted in June 2020. The exam could not be conducted as per schedule in 2020 and early 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
