The Sports Organizing Committee on Sunday announced that three athletes, two of whom are living in the Olympic Village, have tested positive for COVID-19.
This is the first case of infection among the players living in the village. The organizers have not disclosed his identity. The third infected athlete is staying at the designated Games Hotel.
According to the COVID-19 positive case list uploaded by the OC here, a total of 10 cases were detected during the day, including five “sports related personnel”, a contractor and a journalist.
The development comes a day after a non-athlete in the village tested positive for the dreaded virus.
The total number of sports-related COVID cases has now risen to 55, as per OC records.
The first batch of Indian athletes for the Games left on Saturday and has reached Tokyo this morning.
