Defense Ministry approves procurement of communication equipment worth Rs 2,236

The Defense Ministry on Tuesday approved a proposal to procure the GSAT-7C satellite and related equipment for the Indian Air Force (IAF) at a cost of Rs 2,236 crore.

Officials said the procurement is being done to enhance the communication network of the Indian Air Force.


The decision to approve the purchase was taken at a meeting of the Defense Acquisition Council (DAC) chaired by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh.

The Defense Ministry said that the DAC granted the Requirement of Approval (AON) for a capital acquisition proposal of Rs 2,236 crore for the modernization and operational needs of the Indian Air Force under the category of ‘Make in India’.

“The purchase proposal of the Air Force was for a ground hub for real-time connectivity of the GSAT-7C satellite and Software-Defined Radio (SDR),” it said in a statement.

It said the project envisages complete design, development and launch of the satellite in India.

It added, “The induction of the GSAT-7C satellite and the ground hub for Software-Defined Radio (SDR) will enhance the ability of our Armed Forces to communicate with each other under all conditions in safe mode. will increase.”
