There will be a joint entrance test for admission to undergraduate courses in the central universities of the country. University Grants Commission (UGC) has released the notification for the exam. UGC has announced that from the upcoming academic year i.e. 2022-23 in all Central Universities, admission will be taken on the basis of entrance test in all undergraduate courses. From this year 12th marks will not be added for graduation in any central university. Enrollment will be done on the basis of entrance exam marks.
The application process will start in the last week of April. Notification has been issued for this. The CUET exam for admission to undergraduate courses will be conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) in the first week of July. No decision has been taken for post-graduation. Candidates can get the information related to the examination from the website of NTA.
According to the UGC, all 45 central universities will have to enroll for admission to their undergraduate courses on the basis of CUCET exam. However, for postgraduate admissions, universities will still have the flexibility to use CUCET scores as before. Many universities are also willing to use CUCET scores for postgraduate programs.
Some of the universities including Delhi University have already announced to conduct undergraduate admission on the basis of CUET score only. This exam will be a computerized test. The exam will be conducted in 13 languages. These include English, Hindi, Gujarati, Assamese, Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu. A university has a certain percentage reserved for local students or internal students. He will continue to do so. The only difference is that these students will also have to appear through CUET like those students who will be admitted to the general seats. Reservation policies and ordinances of universities will remain unchanged.
Meanwhile, the UGC has exempted international students from CUET. Among Indian students, international students will continue to be admitted to universities on a majority basis as per the current practice.
