Indian Air Force Airman Educational Qualification ,

(a) Group ‘X’ (Technical).

(i) Passed Intermediate/10+2/equivalent examination with Mathematics, Physics and English from a Board of Education listed as a COBSE member, with 50% marks in aggregate and 50% marks in English.
(ii) Three years Diploma course in Engineering in any stream as shown below, from a Government recognized Polytechnic Institute with 50% marks in aggregate, and Diploma in English or Intermediate/Matriculation with 50% marks in aggregate. Also, if English is not a subject in the Diploma course.

(b) Group ‘Y’ (Non-Technical) {Except Automobile Technician, GTI, IAF(P), IAF(S) and Musician} trades.

Passed Intermediate/10+2/Equivalent Examination in any stream/subjects approved by Central/State Board of Education with minimum 50% marks in aggregate and 50% marks in English

(c) For Group ‘Y’ (Non-Technical) Medical Assistant trade.

Passed 10+2 / Intermediate / Equivalent Examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English with 50% marks in aggregate and 50% marks in English

(d) Group ‘X & Y’ (Eligible for both Technical and Non-Technical).

Passed Intermediate / 10+2 / Equivalent Examination with Mathematics, Physics and English with Minimum 50% Marks and 50% Marks in English. Candidates will appear for Group ‘X’ and Group ‘Y’ subjects in the same sitting and can qualify for Group ‘X’ or Group ‘Y’ or both i.e. if the candidate passes in English, Physics and Mathematics , then he is considered to have passed Group ‘X’ and if he passes in English and Reasoning and General Awareness (RAGA) then he will be considered as pass in Group ‘Y’. If a candidate qualifies in all the four subjects, he/she will be considered to have passed in Group ‘X’ and Group ‘Y’. Diploma holders are eligible to appear for Group ‘X’ only

The minimum acceptable height is 152.5 cms except in IAF (P) and Auto Tech trades. However, the minimum acceptable height for IAF(P) and Auto Take trades is mentioned below:-

For IAF (P) trade – 165 cms (for NE and hill states) 175 cms (for other states) -162.5 cms for auto tech trade (for NE and hill states) 165 cms (for other states)

Chest and other medical criteria

(ii) Minimum range of extension: 5 cm

(iii) Weight: Proportionate to height and age. However, minimum 55 kg weight required for Operations Assistant (ATS) trade only.

(iv) Corneal surgery (PRK/LASIK) is not acceptable.

(v) Hearing: The candidate should have normal hearing i.e. able to hear loud whispers from a distance of 6 meters from each ear separately.

(vi) Dental: Should have healthy gums, good set of teeth and at least 14 dental points.

(vii) General Health: The candidate should be of normal anatomy without loss of any appendages. He should be free from any active or latent, acute or chronic, medical or surgical disability or infection and skin diseases. The candidate should be physically and mentally fit to perform duty in any part of the world, in any climate and terrain.
