LIVE Market Updates: Major benchmark indices posted fresh intra-day gains in afternoon deals as financial stocks firmed up.

The Sensex touched a high of 58,968 and closed 251 points higher at 58,915. The NSE Nifty was up 90 points at 17,593.

Power producers Power Grid Corporation and NTPC were the major percentage gainers in 30 Sensex stocks. ICICI Bank, Bajaj Finserv and Kotak Bank also gained nearly 2 per cent. On the other hand, Maruti had fallen by 2 per cent.

The recently listed stocks have registered smart gains in the trade so far. Paytm and Latentview have seen a jump of over 17 per cent. SJS Enterprise is up 15 per cent. Fino Payments Bank and PolicyBazaar were up 9 per cent and 6.5 per cent, respectively.

Elsewhere in Asia, the Nikkei lost 1.6 per cent. Kospi and Taiwan fell 0.1%. On the positive front, the Hang Seng rose 0.3 per cent. Shanghai and the Straits Times were up 0.1 percent each.

The BSE Sensex was up 230 points at 58,894 at 11 am. The index has so far touched the high and low of 58,941 and 58,565 respectively.

NSE Nifty was also up 74 points at 17,577 level. It has touched highs and lows of 17,592 and 17,485 respectively during the day.
