The Madhya Pradesh government on January 14, 2022 announced the closure of schools for all classes across the state from January 15. As of now, the order issued will remain in force till January 31. Keeping in view the dire circumstances arising due to COVID-19, at present, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has issued an order for closure of schools across the state.

The order issued by Chief Minister Chouhan will be applicable to all private and government schools in the state. Apart from shutting down the schools, Chief Minister Chouhan also directed the Madhya Pradesh board to conduct the MP pre-board exams for classes 12 and 10 in the ‘Take Home Exam’ format. Notably, the MP Board Pre-Boards were supposed to start from January 20, which will proceed as per the schedule. CM Chouhan has instructed the schools to ensure necessary arrangements for conducting pre-boards in the above format.CM Chouhan, in an official address on January 14, announced the school shutdown, as well as said that all teaching activities would return to online mode for now. The schools will remain non-functional till January 31 and the COVID-19 situation in the state will be reviewed after January 31. After review, further orders on school operations and other teaching activities will be issued. He also announced to conduct online exam across the state.

Apart from relaxation in physical classes in MP schools, restrictions have also been imposed in respect of public gatherings, fairs and other gatherings in the state. For the time being, sporting activities will resume with restricted attendance of people. For other events, a 50% capacity constraint has been declared.

MP CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan had on January 11 announced the resumption of physical classes in MP schools with 50% capacity. He had also expressed concern over rising Covid-19 cases in some districts of Madhya Pradesh like Bhopal, Indore and Gwalior.
