Exam Pattern will be as follows:
- The Exam Will be Objective Type.
- The question paper will be in English language only.
- There will be negative marking (one mark for each question) in the written examination for questions wrongly answered ie for each incorrect answer, 1 (one) mark will be deducted from the total score.
- The exam will be of two (02) hours duration.
- The Exam consisting of 120 questions (@ 4 marks for each question) is as follows-

Exam Pattern will be as follows:
History of architecture; Indus Valley, Vedic, Buddhist, Indo-Aryan, Dravidian and Mughal periods, European, Greek, Roman, Medieval and Renaissance periods – construction and architectural styles. Vernacular and traditional architecture, Development of contemporary architecture, influence of modern art on architecture, eclecticism, international styles, post modernism.
Architectural design; Elements of design, Principles of design, Objectives of design, Importance of scale in architecture, human scale and monumental scale, Role of color in architecture. Design idea and its evolution through design development, 3-dimensional visualization. building types; residential, commercial, institutional, industrial and recreational, NBC guidelines, architectural character and style, study of modern and traditional iconic building, interrelationship of form, function and circulation in architectural design, application of computers in architecture, AutoCAD, 3d-studio and 3d max.
building construction; Techniques, methods and details, building systems and prefabrication of building elements, principles of modular coordination, estimation, specifications, valuation, professional practice, materials and structural systems, behavioral characteristics of all types of building materials eg Mud, timber, bamboo, brick, concrete, steel, glass, different polymers composites; structural elements in wood, steel and RCC, complex structural systems, principles of pre-stressing, tall buildings. Various types of windows and doors, types of staircase and their various construction techniques, various types of wall construction, various types of steel trusses and roof covering, various types of wall cladding, temporary supporting structures, various structure systems, partitions for large span structures , Design of singly reinforced beams, doubly reinforced beams, cantilever beams, types of footing. Principles of city planning; planning regulations and building byelaws, role of urban conservation and relevance of historic areas in present context, concept of listed buildings, concept of housing, site planning principles, housing typology, housing standards, housing infrastructure, building economics.
Principles of landscape design and site planning; Landscape elements and materials, plant characteristics & plant design. Construction Management; Resource, CPM, PERT, Quality
Control, safety issues, Building Maintenance; Defects in buildings, causes, diagnosis, treatment and preventive measures. Disaster management; effects to mitigate natural disaster at site level; Type and characteristics of soils, classification of soils, bearing capacity of soil.
(a) General Knowledge, Logical Reasoning & Mental Ability

- Economic issues.
- Polity issues.
- Environment issues
- Science and Technology.
- Any other current issues.
- (a) History of India with special reference to Indian freedom struggle movement
- History of Punjab- 14th century onwards.
(b) Logical Reasoning & Mental Ability
- Logical reasoning, analytical and mental ability
- Basic numerical skills, numbers, magnitudes, percentage, numerical relation appreciation.
- Data analysis, graphic presentation charts, tables, spreadsheets.
Candidates not more than two times the total number of posts as mentioned at Note 3 (in their order of merit of written examination) who have scored a minimum of 40 percent marks in written examination (35% for candidates of Scheduled Castes of Punjab and Backward) Classes Punjab) will be short-listed for appearing in the interview.
However, this number shall be subject to variation if two or more candidates at the bottom of this list (the number at the end) get equal marks. In such case, then all of them will be considered for appearing in the Interview (subject to eligibility), warranting the corresponding increase in the stipulated ratio.
No candidate shall be eligible to be shortlisted for interview unless he/she obtains 40% marks in the written competitive examination (read 35% for the candidates belonging to Schedules Caste of Punjab and Backward Classes of Punjab) and no candidate shall be eligible to be appointed unless he/she obtains at least 40% marks in the aggregate ie, competitive examination including interview (read 35% for the candidates belonging to Schedules Castes of Punjab and Backward Classes of Punjab).
The aim of the Interview is to assess the candidate’s suitability for the job in terms of his personal qualities by the Interview Panel.
