Mattermost is seeking an experienced Sr. Technical Community Manager to be the strategic leader of the Mattermost community and foster an inclusive environment that engages and nurtures community members to deepen their involvement in the Mattermost open source project. This Community Manager will work across Mattermost product, engineering, and marketing teams to develop content, programs, and events that excite and delight new and returning community members. The ideal candidate will have high social awareness and the ability to welcome people from all backgrounds into the Mattermost community, engage them via events and other activities, and connect them to internal mentors. Responsibilities:

  • Leave no community member behind and foster an environment that s inclusive of every identity, background, location, and skill level.
  • Be the strategic owner of the Mattermost contributor pathways to eliminate gaps and inefficiencies in the contributor onboarding process.
  • Build community engagement programs that nurture community members to deepen their involvement.
  • Represent the Mattermost community internally and advocate on behalf of their needs.
  • Coordinate cross-functionally with content, marketing, product, and engineering teams to plan and execute community programs.
  • Produce documentation, guides, blog posts, videos, and other resources that help our community adopt and contribute to Mattermost.
  • Engage with the developer community via online platforms, workshops, and hackathons.
  • As desired, represent Mattermost at external events and share technical knowledge with the developer community.

Requirements:

  • 4+ years experience leading technical software communities, preferably open source. This can include volunteer experience.
  • Fluency with one or more programming languages.
  • Passion for improving developer experience.
  • Previous experience launching new community initiatives.A pulse on modern software development tools and technologies.
  • Ability to explain complex technical subjects in a way that s accessible to diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency with written and verbal communications and narrative-driven content.
  • Emotional intelligence and a habit of building trust-based relationships.
  • Accustomed to working independently and autonomously, managing multiple competing priorities.
  • Comfortable working in a fully-remote, distributed, and global company and community.

Bonus Qualifications:

  • Examples of effectively navigating complex and sensitive community management situations with humility, judgment, tact, and humor.
  • A portfolio that shows successful integration of company brand, voice, and messaging into developed content.
  • Experience hosting meetups, workshops, and hackathons.
  • Experience with workflow automation software.
